GENERAL SUMMARY: Central Methodist University seeks an Assistant Professor of Business to join the Division of Accounting, Business, and Economics beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach a range of lower-level business courses with the opportunity to teach upper-level classes as needed. The position may also include occasional teaching in accounting or finance, depending on the division’s needs.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach assigned classes at the scheduled times using effective and current teaching, testing, and grading techniques. Demonstrate knowledge of the subject area and strong written and oral communication skills. Coursework should be graded and feedback provided to students in a timely manner. (50%)
Be available to meet with students as needed before or after class or at other scheduled times throughout the week. Develop course syllabi, lectures, and instructional materials using technology appropriate to the subject taught, in alignment with the missions of the University and the Division of Accounting, Business, and Economics. (30%)
Assist with student recruitment, retention, advising, and graduation planning. Regularly check and respond to CMU email to maintain communication with the Dean, Division Chair, students, and other members of the University community. (20%)
Perform other duties as assigned.
MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: As assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of an MBA with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Business is required. A terminal degree (Ph.D. or D.B.A.) in Business or a related field and prior college-level teaching experience are preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during class instruction and office hours. Must be able to speak clearly and project the voice effectively in a classroom setting. Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds may be required (such as books, equipment, or classroom supplies). Ability to use a computer and standard office technology for extended periods.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to effectively use email, Microsoft Office applications, and a course learning management system. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business-related software is essential.
Experience incorporating technology into instruction to enhance learning in traditional, hybrid, and online courses would be helpful.
Strong commitment to high-quality instruction in a diverse, student-centered environment, with the ability to work effectively with students who have various learning styles and backgrounds.
Demonstrated interest in active and collaborative learning and enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment.
Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and colleagues and to work as a contributing member of the faculty team. Possesses expertise that complements and strengthens the needs and goals of the division.
